When a caregiver is in need of respite or break, arrangements are made for their loved one to be admitted to either a nursing home or assisted living facility for a period of several days to several weeks, depending upon the need.

Respite at home can be arranged by hiring healthcare staff to either live-in or spend several hours a day in the home to handle care giving responsibilities.    

County programs offer a respite benefit

Respite care is not covered by Medicare or medical insurance. Some county programs offer a respite benefit. Contact your local Area Agency on Aging to see if you qualify.
